Oil....?

The past few days we had an incident happen up here at Prudoe Bay ... Some oil leaked out of the pipeline somehow and it took about three days to find it and seal it off. It all got me to thinking about the gas and oil prices here and across the country. We take great pride in the fact that we supply the country about a 1/4 of the consumed oil and gas. We go through all the effort to send it down this crazy pipeline to the "outside", lower 48 states for you that do not know, so they can process it into useable fuel and then sent it all the way back up here for us to use what we need. Now one would think that the oil companies would find it beneficial to make those plants up here so you would cut down on the travel time and so forth to take it down there. Do the processing up here, creating more jobs for the state that is supplying the oil and keep the prices on the fuel here lower then all, if not just most of the rest of the country. Right now we pay some of the highest gas and oil prices in the country and I fail to see why that is allowed. I may be one measly resident but I guarentee you if you walked around Anchorage and asked them if they would rather see the plants up here and get more jobs and lower prices for the product they would be all for it. Alaska takes great pride in the products they produce and most would want those products to be entirely produced here rather than elsewhere. Just a little thought about a lot of misplanning from the oil companies all caused by one little leak this past week up North....any thoughts?

Iditarod link...

For those of you who would like an update on the current standings on the Iditarod race going on as of today here is the link for it. It is rather early at the moment but should get pretty easy to see who might have a chance at winning it by the halfway point. So there is no way to know at the moment but here is the link to the official site...

Iditarod

With the start of the greatest so called race in the North I have to say I missed it...and for all things some extra work. I had to go in and do a Corneal Transplant on a young child. My wife and I had gone the previous year and did a lot of standing around looking at hundreds of dogs and people. The start was nice to say to everyone "Outside" that we were there for it. It consisted of watching a lot of people going by on very slow out of the gate sleds. So last year was fine but no big deal to miss it the following year. Another good point is that the Yukon Quest is a much more difficult race which is between Fairbanks and Whitehorse. They actually had to rescue 13 racers out of a blizzard this year so if I was to be a recurring watcher of a sled dog race it would have to be that race first and foremost.

Opening of the Blog...

This will be the entry that tells you why I started this and what to expect in the future.
I decided that after starting the Website for Kristie and I that I needed a better way to talk about what we are doing and what is going on in the Anchorage area and perhaps some comments on the Alaska area as well. I will add pictures when I feel it is neccessary to do so to better help the readers understand what i am talking about on here. I am sure there will be for the most part a lot of people from out of the Area looking at this so I will need to do so for their benifit.
I hope that you will comment on things if you would like to and by all means ask to be a member if you would like to as well. Enjoy the Blog and look back often as i hope to maintain it at a good speed...
